PACQUIAO’S EARLY PEAKING WORRIES ARIZA

BY JOSEF T. RAMOS CORRRESPONDENT
ALTHOUGH Manny Pacquiao’s condition is superb at the moment, his strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza is worried about the pound-for-pound king’s early peaking two weeks before his bout with American Sugar Shane Mosley on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The peaking state is when all physical and psychological systems of an athlete are maximized.Ariza, who serves as Pacquiao’s main conditioning coach since 2009, told boxing site exam-iner.com that a boxer peaking too soon is at risk of leaving his best stuff in the gym during the actual day of the fight.Pacquiao, according to Ariza, is asking for 11 to 12 rounds sparring sessions with Karim Mayfield, Raymund Beltran, David Rodela and Shawn Porter at the Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles.“I’m really worried about it right now. I mean, especially the way he’s just been going through rounds and asking for more, more, more, and more. You just know that he’s in that groove,” said Ariza.
The veteran strength coach said he is prompted many times to ask Pacquiao to take a break, “He knows his body but I’m always the one that’s thinking at some time you are going to have a break.”
